Florida DBA filing service

Last reviewed October 5, 2026 against official Florida Division of Corporations sources.

Short answer

FLDBA.com prepares and files your Florida fictitious name registration for $249. The price includes the $50 state registration fee and the newspaper notice Florida requires in your county.

What the $249 includes

  • Review of your name and owner details before anything is filed
  • The newspaper notice in a qualifying newspaper in your county, including the newspaper's charge
  • Preparation of your Application for Registration of Fictitious Name
  • The $50 Florida registration fee
  • Filing with the Florida Division of Corporations after the notice has run
  • A copy of the state's acknowledgment showing your registration number and filing date
  • Status updates by email, plus phone support at 850-404-2444

What we need from you

  • The exact fictitious name you want to register
  • The Florida county where the business is based (its principal place of business)
  • A mailing address for the business
  • If an individual owns it: each owner's full legal name and address
  • If a business owns it: the legal name of the entity, its Florida document number and the name of the person signing for it

Information on a fictitious name registration becomes public record on Sunbiz, so use a business mailing address if you'd rather not publish your home address.

Name rules to know before you order

A fictitious name can't include a business entity ending such as LLC, Inc., Corp. or Company unless the owner is that type of entity and is registered or authorized in Florida. If you're a sole proprietor, "Bright Path Cleaning" works; "Bright Path Cleaning LLC" doesn't.

The state does not check whether someone else uses the name. Run a Florida DBA search first so you know what's already registered.

Who needs a fictitious name

Anyone transacting business in Florida under a name other than their legal name. That includes sole proprietors using a brand name and registered companies using a name different from the one on file with the state. Florida does not require registration from:

  • A company in good standing with the Division of Corporations that uses only its exact registered name
  • A Florida-licensed attorney forming a business to practice law
  • Professionals licensed by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation or the Department of Health, when their licensing board doesn't require it

What a DBA does not do

A fictitious name registration doesn't create a company, doesn't limit your personal liability and doesn't reserve the name. It also isn't a license to operate. Most businesses still need a local business tax receipt from their city or county, and Florida law requires you to show a current fictitious name registration to get one if you use a fictitious name. See DBA vs. LLC if you also want liability protection.

Common questions

Can you file a DBA for an LLC or corporation?

Yes. Choose Established business on the order form and give us the entity's legal name and Florida document number. The entity is listed as the owner of the fictitious name.

Can a DBA have more than one owner?

Yes. Florida allows multiple owners on one registration. Add the other owners' names and addresses in the order form and we'll list each of them.

Will my information be public?

Yes. Florida treats the registration as a public record, and the owner names and addresses you provide appear on Sunbiz. Use a business mailing address if you'd prefer.
